Employment Ontario Second Career Program

The Ontario Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities (MTCU) administers programs to assist individuals who are unemployed, have been laid-off, and those who qualify for Employment Insurance. Students may qualify for post-secondary education funding through Employment Ontario or other programs managed by MTCU.

The Second Career Funding Program is specifically designed to retrain individuals in occupations that are currently in demand in today’s job market, giving students the highest opportunity to achieve gainful employment upon graduation. Training programs that qualify for Second Career funding may change from time to time based on market demands.

How the Second Career Program Can Help:

The Second Career Program helps individuals get the training required to gain secure employment and long-lasting career. Funding from the Second Career Program can be used to cover the following expenses:

  • Textbooks and course material
  • Living expenses
  • Help caring for dependents
  • Travel and transportation expenses
  • Disability support and resources
  • Other living and training costs that may be approved

How to Apply for Second Career Funding:

STEP 1 Prepare your Resume and Records – Update your resume and cover letter, perform job searches in your current career sector, and keep a record of all applications and responses.

STEP 2 Meet with an Admissions Representative – Learn about the programs that qualify for Second Career Funding and learn more about eligibility criteria.

STEP 3 Meet with an Employment Assessment Office – Make an appointment with the closest government employment office and attend an eligibility interview.

STEP 4 Submit your Application – Once it has been determined that you are eligible for funding, complete the Second Career Application package and include all required documents
